Some the most promising junior netballing talent in the New England are currently recovering after serious court time with the state’s best, in and around Newcastle.

The 2010 Netball NSW State Age Championships were hosted by the Hunter region from Saturday to Monday. For the first time in the event’s history four venues were utilised.
Team Manager, Vikki Shorter said, “The Armidale and District Netball Association sent three representative teams down to Newcastle: the Under 12s, 13s and 14s.”
Competing at the major sporting event was described as extremely rewarding for the Armidale and District Netballing reps, with invaluable game experience in abundance.
“We played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There were a lot of games
each day. The Championships were physically demanding but we concentrated on fitness and endurance at training in the lead-up,” Mrs Shorter said.
Many of the Under 13s and 14s had competed in the State Championships before, but for the Under 12s it was a real eye-opener.
“Our girls performed well. They demonstrated good skills. They won a good number of games but that was not the only reason for going. The experience was well worth it for the girls. The Championships contributed to their development as netballers,” she said.
Results in the Age Championships were: U12s finished 10th, won six and drew 2; U13s finished 8th, won 8 of their games and drew 3; and the U14s finished 9th and won 4.
